bear fence

back home in idaho we put these fences up around a number of our summer yards.  we call them bear fences.  they're solar charged electric fences that do a pretty good job of keeping bears out.  the fences are more necessary in the northern yards from hayden to athol idaho.  older bears seem to stay away from the hives, but every other summer or so the local farmers around kendrick and lenore will tell us there's a young bear that's been tearing around the canyons and has gotten into our hives.  this photo is in jackson california at a holding yard that doubles as a cow pasture.  the fence keeps most of the cows out most of the time.
